Newton Court Cider, Chase & Ludlow Distilleries

Newton Court cider makers are only moments away from Wall End Farm. They have a wealth of family expertise and offer intimate tasting sessions. They are well-known local producers and they use traditional methods to create the distinctive flavours that reflect the unique landscape. Newton Court isn’t like commercial tourist attractions, instead they are an authentic working cider maker who welcome enthusiasts into their world.

You’ll taste many varieties that are not available to purchase in shops, all whilst you learn about apple selection, fermentation techniques and discovering how the county’s climate and soil creates the ideal cider-making conditions. This tour has a personal touch due to it being a family-run business and allows you to connect with authentic Herefordshire culture.

Chase Distillery in based in Herefordshire and represents one of Britain’s most celebrated field-to-bottle distilleries. They have been creating luxury spirits on their farm since 2008 and are located only 20 minutes from Hereford. They offer 90-minute tours (£20 per person) where they show you the processes behind their award-winning gins and vodkas.

Everything is crafted on-site with great attention to detail, including the hand bottling, to create spirits that are superior quality to standard commercial brands. The tour guides are passionate and keep visitors entertained whilst they explain the processes that transform locally-grown potatoes into premium spirits.

The Ludlow Distillery specialises in hand-crafted gin and whisky. They offer daily tours on weekdays at 3pm, Saturdays at 12noon, 1.30pm and 3pm, and Sundays at 1.30pm and 3pm, with walk-ins welcome. This artisan distillery, is only 10 miles from our Herefordshire accommodation and is worth a visit during your holiday.

Herefordshire Vineyard’s & Local Experiences

The Black Mountain Vineyard is located within the Herefordshire countryside and produces three types of sparkling wine that are all grown and bottled on site. This includes sparkling white, sparkling rosé and Col Fondo. The Wythall Estate Vineyard which is in the Wye Valley AONB and near to Ross-on-Wye, offers tours and tastings of their award-winning still and sparkling wines. The wines are produced from grape varieties that have been chosen specifically to suit the local climate and soil conditions.

Paunton Court which is near to Bishops Frome, offers guided winery tours and tastings from April to September and features sustainable grape growing practices and Frome Valley views. The tastings include wines, sparkling wines, ciders and brandy.

Vine & Juniper which are based in nearby Leominster, supports many local distillers, wineries and brewers and offers fantastic local beers and ciders from the Herefordshire area. This includes Shropshire and Worcestershire and the friendly staff can help you choose your drink using their knowledge and expertise. They hold regular tastings that feature local gins and wine selections which makes them perfect if you like to try different drinks.
